Thelonious Monk (1917-1982) was a seminal American jazz pianist and composer. Born in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Monk is recognized for his unique improvisational style and the creation of numerous jazz standards, including “‘Round Midnight” and “Blue Monk.” His complex harmonies and innovative rhythmic ideas helped to shape the development of modern jazz.
