Charlie Parker (1920-1955) was an influential American jazz saxophonist and composer. Born in Kansas City, Kansas, Parker, also known as “Bird,” was a leading figure in the development of bebop, a modern jazz form characterized by complex harmonies and rhythms. His improvisational genius, represented in classics like “Ornithology” and “Yardbird Suite,” revolutionized jazz music. Despite his brief life, Parker’s contributions to the genre continue to inspire musicians, securing his legacy as a jazz icon.
