Andrei Tarkovsky (1932–1986) was a Russian film director widely regarded as one of the greatest in cinema history, known for masterpieces such as Stalker, Solaris, and Mirror. In the late 1970s, his friend Michelangelo Antonioni gifted him a Polaroid camera, and Tarkovsky began using it not as a casual tool, but as an extension of his lifelong exploration of time, memory, and spirituality. Between 1979 and 1983, he created nearly two hundred instant photographs, first around his countryside home in Russia and later during his exile in Italy. These Polaroids carry both intimacy and melancholy: snapshots of his wife, son, and landscapes soon to be left behind, and later, stark images of ruins and interiors reflecting his sense of displacement. For Tarkovsky, the Polaroid became a way to “stop time,” transforming fleeting impressions into timeless meditations that join cinema, painting, and the poetry of daily life.
Our unique calendar is a true conversation starter for film lovers, art collectors, and admirers of cinema history. When the months have passed, you can cut out the Polaroids and frame them — creating a lasting vintage keepsake for yourself, or thoughtful presents for friends. It’s ideal as a film student gift, producer gift, or for anyone captivated by iconic directors, Soviet art traditions, and the tactile nostalgia of instant and vintage cameras. This wall calendar celebrates cinema’s enduring beauty — perfect for adding inspiration to your home, studio, or creative space.
