Mary Lou Williams

Mary Lou Williams was a highly influential jazz musician of the 20th century, known for her technical skill, innovative arrangements, and compositions that became jazz standards. She was a trailblazer for women in jazz, mentoring and collaborating with other female musicians, and founding the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival, which featured all-female jazz ensembles. Her legacy continues to influence jazz musicians today, and she was posthumously inducted into the International Women’s Forum Hall of Fame in 2015.
